DIY All-Purpose Bathroom Scrub + Cleanser
Re-balance your home with this DIY all-purpose bathroom scrub + cleanser that will keep surfaces clean and nasty scum at bay!
There’s nothing more blissful than walking into a clean and healthy bathroom. It’s one of life's simple pleasures. But using bleach and ammonia, which can damage our nervous system, create respiratory issues and harm wildlife, is NOT an option.
I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to cleaning my bathroom but I don't really want to spend Sundays on my hand and knees scrubbing grimy tiles and icky toilets.
After a ton of research and trial and error, I've found the best solution to keep my bathroom clean and green.
I've talked about not using vinegar and baking soda together in my DIY All-Purpose Kitchen Scouring Scrub and Cleanser. They simply don't mix well.
The ingredients in this recipe are cost-effective and easy to make, they will do the job quickly and efficiently without posing a risk to you, me or the environment.
Baking Soda Works well as a cleaner because it's so alkaline (high PH) and works really well on different surfaces. It's good at absorbing grease or grime and can kill bad odors (goodbye poo).
Castile Soap breaks down build-up, and has the same qualities as any chemical soap, only it's healthy. You can use it to clean anything in your home. If you have hard water, it can leave a bit of a residue, so make sure to try before wasting too much.
I'm using Lemon Essential oil in this recipe because I LOVE the smell, I want my bathroom to have a clean, fresh citric twist and this does the job so well. It's antiseptic, anti-fungal, antiviral and a fabulous disinfectant too.
You can swap out the Lemon for tea tree or orange, two really good alternatives with many of the same properties.
This makes enough for one really good clean, for a small bathroom, you can add more if required. I use this on tiles, window sills, sinks, around the toilet (base), in the shower and even on the floor.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Liquid Castile soap
- ⅓ cup Baking soda
- 3-5 drops Lemon essential oil
Instructions
- Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl to form a thick paste
- Scrub all the nooks and crannies
- Rinse with hot water
Recipe Notes
You can spray the area(s) with hydrogen peroxide after if you like. I do this from time to time, just for a little extra cleaning boost.
And voila.... a clean and blissful space.
Your bathroom should be a place of bliss and balance and this DIY recipe will help achieve both. It's a great combination of super-power natural ingredients, all working in harmony to give you the best bang for your buck. Do you use castile soap in your home? How?
