16. 2°EAST Watches

A display of watches from 2 degrees east.Pin
Image: 2°EAST

What makes you tick when it comes to gift-giving? Is it a brand's ethics? Their sustainability track record? Design? If it's all of the above, then 2°EAST's timeless classics are the perfect choice for the special man in your life.

"Meet the watch for humans who believe it’s cool to be kind" — now that's a mission statement! This watch company has some real eco-cred. Strap yourself in and check out these features:

The face of the watch is protected by a sapphire crystal which, unlike mineral crystal, is made to last. It's indestructible and you do not need to worry about scratches, etc. You have the choice of gold or silver.

The watch movement is a Miyota quartz, chosen because of its strong environmental policy.

What really impresses me is the zero-waste ION plating. Here's how they explain it: "our conflict-free rose gold is applied using a zero-waste dry plating process that eliminates air emissions, wastewater, and hazardous wastes associated with traditional plating techniques."

They use 100% post-consumer recycled PET (RePET) for their NATO straps, giving a second life to a material that’s not biodegradable and would otherwise end up in landfills or oceans. The leather is vegetable-tanned, which is a much more eco-friendly and non-toxic option compared to conventional leather.

A watch is something that's so personal and by making its straps interchangeable, 2°EAST has done what other companies have not, giving you the option to choose what your watch will look like. It's brilliant. Choose from leather, mesh, and NATO straps.

If you want to have the best time ever with your man, I'd consider one of these luxury (but affordable) timepieces that are ahead of the curve with their various ethical practices on land and sea.

For every watch or strap sold, they plant a tree in partnership with Trees For The Future. Plus, your watch will arrive at your door in plastic-free packaging.

It's made from cotton canvas, has a shoulder strap that can be removed and it's super lightweight. I love that this bag is neutral enough to work for any occasion but also has a lot to offer in design and detail.

Nisolo is a Certified B Corporation. They ensure a living wage to 100 percent of the artisans who create their beautiful products. They also offset 100 percent of their carbon emissions and are verified by Climate Neutral Certification.

Don't judge me, but I just ordered this! I feel like this basket and warmer will convert a simple loaf of bread into a delicious powerhouse — I mean, who does not LOVE warm bread! Talk about divine.

This dynamic duo is available at Made Trade, one of the best ethical online stores that deserve a visit. Give yourself some time to peruse — you will need it. Made Trade is known for its dedication to: "Fair wages above profits. Sustainability above mass production. Quality craftsmanship above mindless consumption. And transparency above everything."

Their website is a gold mine of ethical goodies and this bread basket and warmer is currently at the top of my list. It's made by a company called Korissa which partners with artisans in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Indigenous communities throughout rural communities in Ecuador. Korissa is a fair trade, POC-owned brand whose collection of goods is really beautiful.

The terracotta warmer has been hand engraved and the basket is handmade with seagrass and jute.

OBSESSED! That is the only word that comes to mind when I think of these bowl covers. Don't let their size fool you. Good things come in small packages after all. These sustainable eco friendly gifts will not only help you reduce your waste they will make your kitchen look fabulous!

The average household uses up to 24 rolls of plastic wrap in a year! At three to five dollars per box, that’s over $100 per year. When you choose our reusable bowl covers you not only save a huge amount of waste but, also save $$.

Plus they look a lot nicer. They come in a variety of sizes from small to cover the top of a mason jar to large to fit over a bowl, dish, or casserole. Each one is handcrafted with love and includes messages like "live simply", "love your food" and more. They are made with GOTS certified organic cotton with an elastic band that fits snuggly over the container.

I'm coco-nuts for these bowls, and your vegan loved one will be too! They are one of the best sustainable Christmas gifts in my humble opinion!

These Coconut Bowls aren't just a beautiful way to serve smoothies and snacks, they also offer a simple way to help reduce waste and support artisans around the world. 🌏

It all starts with reclaiming coconut shells destined for landfills from rural farmers in Vietnam, providing them with an additional stream of income whilst reducing waste. 🌱

These shells are then lovingly hand-crafted by the Coconut Bowls team of talented artisans, transforming these husks into a totally hand-made bowl that's as unique as you or your loved one! Use the code CANDICE10 for 10% off your order.

What makes a gift sustainable or eco-friendly?

As with all things here on The Eco Hub, we try to stick to certain criteria, and we want to share brands that live up to that eco cred.

So, we've rounded up our favorite brands for this ethical gift guide, all of which we'd certainly add to our holiday wish list. We look for a number of things when choosing eco-friendly gifts, like:

  • How and where is the item made?
  • Does the company adhere to certain standards in the manufacturing process?
  • Are there any certifications such as Fair Trade or B Corp in place?
  • How sustainable is the packaging?
  • Is it free of greenwashing?

Now you can say Happy Holidays with this eco-friendly gift guide for everyone on your list.
